Health Department The Health Department has been on the front lines of the COVID-19
pandemic since March 2020. The Health Dept. has been the lead agency
locally for testing, contract tracing, investigations and more.
The Health Department also took steps to enhance and protect clients from
COVID exposure at the clinic by constructing a wall to separate well and sick
patients in the waiting room area and installing UV lights to the HVAC system.
$35,000 – The dental clinic was awarded a Duke Endowment grant to expand
school based prevention efforts with the dental sealant program for middle
school children
$79,000 – A grant from the NC Dept. of Health and Human Services aimed at
reducing infant mortality in minority populations
$150,000 – Community Health action grant to expand primary care access to
uninsured adults (18 and older) in our community

Social Services The mission of the Stanly County Department of Social Services is to promote
residents. The agency provides services to protect vulnerable adults and children,
promote economic stability, and increase access to health care and nutrition.
Approximately 164 individuals visit the agency on a daily basis.

The department is required by law to receive and investigate reports of abuse
or neglect of children. If abuse or neglect is found to exist, services must be
provided to protect the child from further abuse and neglect and help the
parents learn to provide better care for the child. 891 child abuse and/or
neglect reports were received; of those, 541 (61%) were substantiated and
evaluated to determine the level of services needed.
Veterans Services
only fully-accredited representative that is authorized to represent the NC
Division of Veterans Affairs and present claims before the US Department
veterans and their families. All services are free of charge and we continue to
encourage all veterans, dependents and surviving spouses to take advantage
• Provided assistance to over 1,900 Stanly County veterans, dependents
and surviving spouses.
