Airport The Stanly County Airport continues to experience steady utilization from both
general aviation and military activities.
Key Projects & Other Activities
• Planning, coordination and the
pursuit of funding continues with the
Air National Guard to enhance the
runway and taxiway for continued
C17 training operations
• A broadband tower was installed to provide high-speed Internet coverage
across the entire airport property
• A State grant was secured to remove rubber, repaint all striping and seal
cracks on the runways and taxiway
• The beacon tower, glide slope and localizer storage buildings were all
repainted with a State DOT grant

Stanly County Agri-Civic Center
The Stanly County Agri-Civic Center is a multi-use
Extension Service, USDA Rural Development,
Natural Resources Conservation Services, North
Carolina Forestry Service and the Farm Service
Agency as well as a 1,050-seat performing arts theatre, banquet facilities and
several multi-purpose meeting rooms.
Highlights of building maintenance and improvement projects:

• Replaced a roof top HVAC unit with a new gas pack unit
• Installed new lighting outside the Farm Services Agency to enhance safety and
security for those parking in that area
• Installed a boulder retaining wall to address erosion issues on the backside of
the facility and replaced the mulch
Stanly County Library & History Center
The Stanly County Public Library and History Center provides books, information,
and programming for citizens of all ages.
• Issued 1,635 new library cards
• Over 4,500 new titles were added to the eBook collection
• Added approximately 11,000 new resources to the Library System’s overall
collection
• Checked out over 108,500 items (decrease of 28%)
• The History Center which includes the museum and Margaret Johnson
Heritage Room saw a sharp decline in average visitors per month in 2020 due
to COVID. The number of visitors per month decreased from 280 (14 per day)
to 44 (2 per day).
