Place a piece of appliqué fabric over the placement stitch,
being sure to cover it on all sides.

Run the tacking stitch to secure the appliqué fabric to
the design.
Use a pair of scissors to trim away the excess appliqué fabric
to the tacking stitch. If an appliqué falls on the edge of the
design, be sure to leave at least a 1⁄2” seam allowance on
those edges, otherwise, trim all the edges.
While following your design’s numbered machine steps, you
will notice a placement stitch for a standard appliqué. Go
ahead and run the placement stitch so that you know exactly
where to place the appliqué fabric.
