LASTA RLTOOK
THE SYKES’ ARS SONORA
The University of Tampa is about to become home to the
largest and most technologically advanced Ars Sonora
musical bell structure in the world. The 105-foot-tall,
stainless steel sculpture is made of 63 bronze bells that can
be played using an electronic piano keyboard. Manufactured in France,
the bell structure will be the first of its kind in the United States and is
a major leap beyond a traditional carillon. It will be located in Sykes
Plaza, just north of the chapel. The project is being funded by Susan and
John Sykes, whose contributions also helped fund the Sykes Chapel
and Center for Faith and Values, the Vaughn Center, the Sykes College
of Business facility, and who also endowed UT’s Center for Ethics. 9
