History:
Fashion has a way of
defi ning individuals
and generations; it is a
measure of both aesthetic and
cultural progress punctuated
by decades of different styles
and trends. Each decade in
the 20th century signifi ed
a particular renaissance in
fashion and a memory in time.
Boca Grande resident
Nancy Lyons still sports her
late father’s fedora atop her
head as she marvels, “A wellmade
fedora never goes
out of fashion.” Fashion has
historically been part of one’s
personal and cultural identity,
and the 20th century was
packed with decades full of
proof. The fashions worn by
both men and women were
greatly infl uenced by the times:
war, politics, Hollywood, and
popular social movements.
