SHAWN DELL JOYCE
Paintings of Wild Florida

By Aaron R. Fodiman
Having grown up in a farming family in Texas, artist Shawn Dell Joyce was attracted to the pastoral scenes
and landscapes of vineyards, orchards and farms in New York’s Hudson Valley. She moved north to
pursue art after her family lost its citrus farm to a hard freeze. The life change led to her founding a
nonprofit plein air outdoor painting school, which helped bring cultural tourism to that region.
Herons Rising is a painting of Lake Tarpon based on a photo taken near
John Chestnut Sr. Park in Palm Harbor.
