Her work appears in collections in the Centre
Pompidou museum in Paris, France, and the Museum
of Modern Art in New York City. Joyce is president of
the Pastel Society of Tampa Bay and a signature member
of the New York Plein Air Painters and the International
Plein Air Painters.
When she retired from the Wallkill River School of
Art and moved to Dunedin in 2016, she began a series
of weekly “Plein Air Adventure” classes for people
who follow her to paint in places off the beaten path.
On the Florida jaunts, she leads artists to quiet beaches,
historic places, buildings and other destinations with
local color that often go unnoticed by most. She is
inspired by swamps, bayous, historic places, wildlife and
sunsets. Her classes have thrived during the coronavirus
pandemic because it is relatively easy to socially distance
during these excursions.
She is busy chronicling these unspoiled places before
her fears of population growth and the pressure of
development reduce much of what she now sees. Joyce
has been using vibrant blues, oranges and the green
golds that punctuate Florida, rather than the violets,
siennas and ultramarines she used during her time in
the Northeast.
