“Diversity, Equity & Inclusion”
Expanding Our Impact
By Alex Gorsky, Chief Executive Officer,
Johnson & Johnson
For 135 years, Johnson & Johnson’s transformative healthcare solutions
and successful business outcomes have been developed and delivered by our diverse
workforce and supported by our culture of inclusion and belonging
We’ve long known that our ability to serve all our
stakeholders and change the trajectory of human health
depends on bringing together different cultures,
backgrounds, and ways of thinking. The Credo, which guides
Johnson & Johnson’s decision making, includes diversity, equity and
inclusion as an integral part of the way we do business. As Jackie
Maestri, our Vice President, Johnson & Johnson Global Services
and Enterprise Transformations says, “Only by having different
experiences at the table can we be successful in finding solutions
and innovations that bring health to billions of people.”
Our continued success, however, demands that we constantly
push ourselves to expand our culture of inclusion.
That’s why it’s such an honor to be recognized for these
efforts—and our more than 100-year commitment to Hispanic
diversity—with LATINA Style’s Company of the Year. It’s a profound
validation of our long-standing commitment to diversity, equity, and
inclusion (DEI) in every aspect of our business, from management
to factory floors to global supply chains.
Since its founding in 2001, our Hispanic professionals employee
resource group, HOLA, has expanded to 37 chapters globally and
doubled the size of its membership in just the past three years.
HOLA’s advisory council provides our business and brands with
critical counsel on everything from how to best reach Hispanic
audiences to making meaningful improvements to supplier diversity.
HOLA’s success and Johnson & Johnson’s commitment to
promoting DEI are great points of pride. But there is still always more
that we can do.
We’re creating more leadership opportunities for our Hispanic
employees through mentoring and recruitment, as well as
expanding our collaboration with non-profit organizations including
the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, the Society of Hispanic Professional
Engineers, the Hispanic IT Executive Council, and Hispanic Promise.
Change, however, must also happen at a societal level, which no
single organization can take on alone. Johnson & Johnson is
partnering with UNIDOS US, Hispanic Association for Corporate
Responsibility and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to drive
progress on equitable policy, economics, healthcare, education, and
training. Building on our work with the Business Roundtable (BRT), we
have also established a dedicated DEI Working Group with leaders
across industries to create opportunity for people of all backgrounds.
At Johnson & Johnson, we believe that our biggest
opportunity—and our greatest responsibility—is creating a
healthier and more equitable world for everyone. This impactful
work, which addresses huge areas of unmet need and pushes
the boundaries of healthcare innovation, can only happen when
our 137,000 employees bring their best, most authentic selves to
work every day.
