Lake Shenandoah County Park &
Sports Field Complex
660 Ocean Avenue & 300 New Hampshire Avenue, Lakewood
Tall oaks and pines surround the focal point of this park, the gorgeous 100-acre
Lake Shenandoah. Trout-stocked waters, accessible fishing piers and an on-site
bait-and-tackle shop with boat rentals make this spot perfect for freshwater
fishing from land or water. Eighty-four acres of open playing fields await visitors
to Lake Shenandoah County Sports Field Complex. This park offers more
than just field sports, however—there are also bike paths, picnic areas and a
playground.
Ocean County Park
659 Ocean Avenue (Route 88), Lakewood
This magnificent facility was originally part of financier John D. Rockefeller’s
vacation estate. White pine, hemlock and other non-native trees, now mature,
were imported by Rockefeller from all over the country. Tennis courts, open play
fields, beach volleyball and even a driving range—all free of charge—appeal
to adults, and children will delight in using the playgrounds or swimming in
the large, clean lake on hot summer days. Transformed into a silent winter
wonderland after a snowfall, it’s a great site for cross-country skiing. There is no
charge for casual use of the park, the off-leash dog park, the beach or its many
other facilities.
Ocean County Park has a large, accessible picnic facility. Reservations are
available for a nominal fee for up to 600 persons. Call 732-506-9090 at least three
weeks in advance for more information.
