Highlights from Our Past Issues
25 Years ago - September/October 1991
10 Years ago - September/October 2006
It had been 22 years since UPARC’s
Festival of Trees began in Tampa Bay
where they raised over $1,000,000.
In 2006, the event was moved to
Clearwater’s Harborview Center and
held during Thanksgiving week.
UPARC has since changed its name to
The Arc Tampa Bay, and the Festival
of Trees is now held at the Long
Center in Clearwater. However, the
goal is still the same – to raise funds
to help those with developmental
disabilities by displaying and selling
uniquely decorated Christmas trees
and other holiday decorations. For

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2016 | TAMPA BAY MAGAZINE 97
In this issue, we featured 51
of our favorite places to dine.
Some, such as Bentley’s in
Clearwater, the Cactus Club
in Tampa, The Lobster Pot in
Redington Shores and the Wine
Cellar on North Redington
Beach, are long gone. However,
many others, such as Alfano’s
in Clearwater and Bon Appétit
and Kelly’s in Dunedin, are still
serving the award-winning
food that has kept them on our
“Best of Tampa Bay” list for the
past 25 years.
This painting by
Keith Martin Johns
entitled Standing
Alone captures the
natural beauty of
our area.
This cover,
created by the
late T.W. Curtis,
was instrumental
in influencing us
to feature art by
local artists on
our covers.
Great meals, such as this one, from
Alfano’s Italian Restaurant in Clearwater still
make it one of our favorite places to dine.
