St. Louis hosted a World’s Fair, known as “The Louisiana Purchase Exposition,”
in the city’s Forest Park in 1904. In addition, the 1904 Summer Olympic Games
were held in Washington University’s Francis Field, drawing over 20 million
people during its seven-month run.
A visit to this city should include a trip to Gateway Arch National Park on the
bank of the Mississippi River. The Arch, which was built in 1965, was designed
by Eero Saarinen, who is known for his Dulles International Airport near
Washington, D.C. and for the TWA Terminal at JFK Airport in New York City. s
