you emotional.” And from there her
journey began.
To date Misty has competed in
fitness competitions around the
country, finished 2 ½ marathons,
completed the Spartan Trifecta, has
completed the Sprint Triathlon in 2016
and has had her story told in the 2014
issue of Shape Magazine. She has a full
calendar of events throughout the rest
of this year and ongoing. In the last
few years she has found motivation
not only in pushing herself to the next
level but in the contribution to helping
others through the programs at About
Face Boot Camp.
About Face Boot Camp is a place
for all. Founded by Jena Armstrong
in 2012, its design is built around
comradery. Misty explains “it’s the
person next to you that drives you, or
the phone call you get from someone
who cares when you have missed
class.” Military battles are won on the
field as a group effort and the element
of protecting not only yourself but
your unit as a family is crucial. And
that is where About Face Boot Camp
wins. Of course they have nutrition
programs individually designed, and
different structured classes. They
have big tires, kettle bells, machines,
and programs designed to identify
your goals. But it is being part of their
family unit that drives the results of
the people they train. So when you
join don’t just be prepared to show up
and be pushed while you are there,
(although you can be sure that will be a
part of it). Be prepared to be a part of
something that is bigger than yourself,
a brotherhood/sisterhood of people
taking care of each other as you drive
yourself to greater things.
Of course Charlotte is not short on
incredible people and their journeys.
Our next stop on our boot camp
journey was Pride Conditioning. Just
north of downtown Charlotte at 337
Dalton Ave and can be reached at >>

980-292-1105. We had the pleasure to
meet Chris Wilson. Chris is a quiet and
humble 25 year old dedicated to be the
driving force in helping others reach
their fitness goals. He is a graduate
of St. Joseph’s University, was a 3 year
starter leading his team in the NCAA
tournament, played professional
basketball in Germany’s top league
and is the founder of Chris Wilson
Basketball Camp in Fayetteville.
Chris’ journey is an inspirational one
that is not without struggle. Shortly
after joining Germany’s top basketball
league Chris ruptured two discs in his
spine. This appeared to be a setback
that could be cured with surgery and
while in recovery Chris was given
expectations of getting back on the
court in just a matter of time. Shortly
after surgery Chris started having
symptoms of paralysis that started in
his legs and began to advance through
his body. His condition appeared
to be a mystery until he was finally
diagnosed with a very rare condition
known as Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
This is an auto immune condition
that attacks the peripheral nervous
system causing the paralysis Chris was
experiencing. There is no actual cure
for Chris’s syndrome although it can
“They are raw, hard hitting, serious,
creative, compassionate and real.”
