COUNT IT
ALL JOY
Before coming to Adult and Teen Challenge I was
completely bound by alcohol and co-dependent
relationships. My parents divorced when I was a
young girl and although I grew up happy, I still
felt something was lacking. I began clinging to
men and always seeking to please others. Once I
started attending college I gained a lot of freedom
and began hanging around with the wrong crowd.
Drinking alcohol became a lifestyle pleasing and
fun for me at first.
Not long after college I married and had three
children, one of whom was born with a medical
condition that has caused chronic lung disease, and
severe gastrointestinal issues, which has led her to
being hospitalized most of her life. It was at this
point my drinking began to escalate. I used alcohol
as a means of coping for what my family and I
were going through. It progressed into a daily habit,

and over the years I began to detach from
my friends and family until eventually alcohol
landed me in jail with multiple DUI charges
and an endangerment charge.
While in jail I had a chance to sober up and
evaluate my life. I no longer knew who I was,
and my family no longer trusted me. I had lost
my job, my marriage, my home and my children.
But then God opened the door for me
to come to Adult and Teen Challenge of the
Upper Cumberland.
