to one meal a day. Take small
steps in your daily routine that
will allow you to feel successful.
Changing our daily routines and
adding healthy choices helps to
make them a habit.
(2) Find an activity you enjoy.
It is easier to maintain a physical
fitness regime if you find something
that you enjoy. All of your
friends may love swimming but
if you love walking – walk. Find
activities that are fun and not a
chore.
(3) Find activities that you can
do. There are many activities you
may enjoy that are not easy for you
to do daily. You may love hiking.
You may love canoeing. Those
activities are often not easy to do
daily. What activities are easily
accessible?
(4) Look for a community
of people who enjoy activities
that you enjoy. If you like yoga,
join a yoga class. If you like trail
running, meet someone at the
park. It is fun to find people
with common interests. You do
not necessarily have to do your
activity with them, but it is nice
to have a community of people
who enjoy what you enjoy. This
will also give you accountability
partners and people to converse
with about your activity.
Should we reward ourselves
for attaining healthy habits? I
do not need to splurge and eat
a brownie because I have been
“good.” I may eat a brownie because
I want to eat a brownie, but
then get back to healthier choices.
It’s okay. I have found that when
we feel better about ourselves we
take better care of ourselves. I
think the new, healthier you is the
reward.
