that he or she will receive additional help in their area of a decit.
This is Tier 2 support, and it is typically received in a small group
setting, targeted to improve specic skills. Your child’s progress
will be monitored and shared with you on a regular basis.
If your child is not responding positively to the Tier 2 intervention,
another intervention may be implemented and monitored. Some
students will not make sufcient progress, and you will be invited
to be a part of the team that problem-solves to nd out what type
of instruction will work best. Using the problem-solving process,
the team may recommend more intense interventions to address
these concerns.
It is important to remember that your child will continue to
receive the targeted small group instruction while receiving the
individualized intense instruction. If your child is not making
enough progress after receiving intensive intervention, this
may indicate that your child may be a student with a disability.
However, the provision of additional support does not mean that
your child has a disability or needs special education.
As a parent, you should expect information from your child’s
school regarding progress in meeting grade level standards, as
well as early identication of academic or behavior concerns. You
should also expect instruction matched to your child’s needs, and
feedback on how well your child is responding to the instruction.
