Life is but a dream on our little paradise called Tybee Island! If you sit
back and really think about it, do you realize how many people want
to be us? Yep! We got it going on right here. That being said … Tybee
doesn’t just happen. There are so many people shucking and jiving
behind the scenes that you never even hear about. People that want no
limelight and make Tybee thrive with a combo of blood, sweat, tears, joy
and a sense of fulfillment at being involved in our community. Our home.
Our lives.
Do you want to attend Mardi Gras or any of the numerous events that
Tybee offers? Do you even have an inkling of the bodies and funds
required to put out any event? You want to walk down the beach without
stepping in trash? (We love DPW!!) You want Tybee to stay Tybee with its
numerous perks and amenities? You want to raise you kids here? Well,
belly up to the volunteer table where your mouth is (or your brain).
April is National Volunteer Month and the Beachcomber is proud to provide
a semi-comprehensive list of all of Tybee’s volunteer opportunities
available and listed below. This is not a complete list (I tried my best
and if I missed you, I sincerely apologize). Due to space restrictions, I
asked for a logo, mission statement and contact number for anyone to
call that’s interested in becoming a volunteer. If y’all help Tybee and her
people, then you belong here.
Tybee Clean Beach Volunteers (aka Fight
Dirty Tybee) - Tybee Clean Beach Volunteers
is a grass-roots organization made up of
volunteers that sweep Tybee’s beaches free
of trash on a regular basis, often weekly. We
are committed to working with the City of
Tybee and organizations that promote a healthy beach environment to
find innovative and effective ways to reduce beach trash. We believe
beach cleaning is a fun and rewarding experience for everyone, and a
great way to meet other people that love a natural coastal environment.
