Tybee Optimist Club - Optimist
International is a worldwide volunteer
organization made up of more than
2,500 local clubs whose members work each day to make the future
brighter by bringing out the best in children, in their communities, and

Coastal Mermaid & Pirate Club - The Coastal
Mermaid & Pirate Club offers life skills training, prevocational
skills, and socialization to adults with
intellectual/developmental disabilities. Through
social skills training, communication skills, life skills
(cooking, shopping, money management, telephone
etiquette, etc.), and recreation, the members
learn independence, self-advocacy, and self- confidence. Website:

Tybee Arts Association - Our mission is to
develop and sustain interest, appreciation
and enjoyment of the arts on Tybee Island by:
sponsoring arts exhibits and performances
for education and enjoyment; offering educational programs for children
and adults; providing scholarships, grants, prizes and other assistance to
outstanding students in their continuing art education; and working with
other community organizations. We are always in search of good ideas

Tybee Island YMCA - With a focus on youth
development, healthy living and social responsibility,
volunteers of the Tybee Island YMCA and Recreation
Department gives men, women, and children of all
ages and from all walks of life the resources and
support they need to be healthy, confident, connected and secure. If

Tybee Island Youth Council - The mission of
Tybee Island Youth Council is to promote and
receive input from the youth in the community to
develop and sustain programs and activities for
the youth and to provide a vehicle to lean about
government, participate in the process and to

Tybee Post Theater - Our mission is to successfully
operate the Tybee Post Theater as an integral
part of our community that enhances our cultural
experience, encourages and attracts visitors and

Tybee Wishes - A partnership of Tybee locals formed
in an act of goodwill. Tybee Wishes exists to work
quietly within our community to help “one of our
own,” with quick relief for medical or similar needs,

Tybee Festival Association - A non-profit
organization made up of business owners and
residents whose common purpose is to provide
public festivals and events to Tybee Island and to
promote interest and tourism on our island year

Tybee Lighthouse and Museum - A
non-profit organization that relies
on volunteers to greet the visitors
at the lighthouse and museum, help onsite with various projects and

Tybee Island Police Dept. - Operation Starlight is a
volunteer program to help with children whose parents
have been arrested. If you are interested in taking part in
this program, reach out to Captain Hayes or Lt. Randolph
at TIPD 912-786-5600.
Shriner’s Club - The mission of Shriners
International and Shriners Hospitals for
Children are aligned in many ways, and the
two work closely to raise interest in and
awareness of their efforts. The members and staff of these two unique
entities are intent on making the world a better place, and on improving
the lives of children in need of specialized medical care. Contact: Info@

Everyone has time to do something helpful for our community. Some of
these organizations only meet once a month, but manage to accomplish
huge things! A couple hours out of your month is nothing. Get off the
couch. The bar stool. Your butt! You live here and you love here. Protect
our here.
This story was a lot of work and we could not have done it without the
help of Shirley Sessions and Karen Parsons Penick, who are as devoted
to Tybee as we are. Thank you to all of the volunteers on Tybee who do so
much to make our little spot of Paradise such a wonderful place to live!
