General Burns That Can Occur at the
Workplace:
Thermal Burns — Thermal burns are
caused by contact
liquids, hot surfaces,
and other sources of
high heat.
Chemical Burns — Chemicals burns
occur when the skin
comes in contact with
chemicals or other
irritants.
Electrical Burns — An electrical burn is
caused by heat produced
by an electrical
current.
General Considerations:
• Burns should always be considered
a serious injury and should receive
immediate medical attention.
• Remove rings, belts, shoes, and tight
clothing before swelling occurs.
• If clothing is stuck to the burn, DO NOT
REMOVE IT. Carefully cut around the
stuck fabric to remove loose fabric.
• If applicable, check SDS for burn care
instructions.
