Wow!! Have I got a bartender for you! Sarah Wood-Thomsen is her
name and you are going to find this world traveling lady at Fannie’s on
the Beach. I got a chance to sit down with this gal and what a life story
she has! Not to mention she’s also a really good bartender and has the
personality and saucy attitude to keep you coming back for more! Let’s
get to it!
Born in Brighton, England (and has a lovely accent to match!), Sarah
grew up with Mom, Dad and her brother, doing the boring bits that get
us to adulthood and freedom. Sarah knew early on she wanted to travel
the planet and at 17 years old, she set out to do just that! Starting out
from Brighton, she traveled to Verona, Italy where she worked as an au
pair (that’s a nanny for us state side folk) and had the opportunity on her
off time to scour the entire country of Italy. After two years, she left Italy
and just discovered the planet. She had started her bartending career in
Brighton and used her experience to make traveling money as she went.
Pick a country and this girl has been there!
Tack on a couple years and all of a sudden, she is in South America.
There she is minding her own business when she hooks up with a couple
of tourists from Savannah that attend SCAD. Well, whatever those
people said to her, it made her move to Savannah in 1991! Gotta love
a hook up like that! Sarah got to Savannah and fell back on her gig -
bartending. Working and running Velvet Elvis (now known as The Jinx),
Sarah did that for quite a minute before that traveling bug started to bite.
Off to Nashville, TN she went because, why not? It’s a good thing too
because she met the love of her life, Anders, there and got married. She
must be contagious because she and Anders took off shortly thereafter
to Thailand, Australia and other exotic locales. Along the way, Freya, the
baby, came along and the traveling family of two became three.
Wanting to get back to the States, the family moved back to Nashville,
but quickly found themselves back in Savannah. And that is where we
find this girl today: Tybee Island, Georgia! Getting on at Fannie’s in 2013,
Sarah has found her happy.
I asked her the Life questions:
Tybee Life: Four ish years, but plenty of visits!
Passion: Living life to the absolute fullest
Grow up: A housewife (love that)
Spirit Animal: A fox. Foxes are astute, street savvy and normally red
headed! So, Yes! Yes! And Yes!
Sarah’s go-to drink(s) is a bottle of Budweiser and a shot of Wild
Turkey! Easy!
Sarah is super fun to talk to and with her world travels, she definitely
needs to write a book. Until that bestseller hits the lists, get down
to Fannie’s and ask her about her travels! The girl has literally been
everywhere. Fun and entertaining, this gal also does not stand for any
bullshit, so bring your game face and let’s have some Wild Turkey!
