There’s a lot to catch up on in our Historic Preservation World this month! Tybee hosted the regional Georgia
Historic Preservation Commission training for over 50 commission members statewide. The participants enjoyed
a day of seminars on making defensible legal decisions, rehabilitation standards and case studies, as well as
Savannah: A Citywide Historic Resources Survey. The participants also toured Tybee’s Light Station and museum.
Three of your Tybee commission members were in attendance, Chair Jan Will, Marty Harrell and Kathy Dennis.
If you are interested in finding out more on historic preservation, check out the Georgia Alliance of Preservation
Commissions’ website at http://georgiahpcs.org. There is a wealth of information available. We also said goodbye
to our fearless leader, Chantel Morton in May and wish her all the best in her new endeavors.
Be on the lookout around town for postcards celebrating Tybee’s historic preservation! They are great for framing,
thank you notes and anything else you might want to say. They are available for a $1.00 suggested donation.
We also have new brochures touting Tybee’s preservation efforts. They are available at the lighthouse and city
hall - they’re very cool and beachy!
Last, but not least, we want to give a shout-out to Sarah Jones and her new book on Tybee’s postcards of the
past! What a great gift for friends, your visitors, newcomers and yourself! Tybee has a fascinating history -
embrace and enjoy!
