given best. A burst of 2.5 miles run in 25 minutes. It was a busy morning with some nice hound
work and music.
Joint Meets
T his season we held two joint meets with the Golden’s Bridge Hounds. On the 8th of September
GBH came to Ed Sobiech’s on Jessup Rd. It was a very hot morning which is
normally the case when GBH visit. It didn’t help hounds while drawing behind the Barn and over
to Myruski’s–all blank. Gathered up, after drawing the small corn patch, hounds were taken on
to draw the brook in the Panoramic Farms cover towards Taylor Road.
Drawing below the road, all the usual draws were blank. The last few thick pieces of cover
were drawn up the ravine. A grand crash of music rang out when hounds found running down
the ravine then over the top to the brook, keeping left handed, turning back for the ravine and
up over Old Ridge Road. Now running right handed, Codie and I were hard pushed to stay with
them, but they turned back for Old Ridge Road where the field viewed the pack crossing back.
Galloping hard via Pasquale’s, Codie and I were soon in touch, as hounds raced through the
cover towards Taylor Road. They crossed on a good line above the shoot parking and turned
left handed for Jessup Road. Here they were stopped as horse and hounds were well run in the
heat. A run of 3.5 miles in under 30 minutes.
We were hosted by GBH on November 24. After a slow start, hounds worked very hard on an
old line. This was marvelous to watch both packs check, cast, speak and to hunt the line as
one, on a very tight turning drag (drag= English term for an old line). Once found, the Coyote
spent little time dilly-dallying; he left the thick cover and trusted to speed to put ground between
hounds and himself. Although he kept in wooded valleys he was seen three times and
hounds covered 13 miles in around 2 hours of some very good hunting.
We also had a day at Sally Jellison’s Fox Valley Farm in Muncy, PA. Hounds worked well but
never really settled on a strong line. Nevertheless, a very enjoyable day was spent and a
breakfast followed. This day was well attended by local riders and car followers.
