The Windy Hollow Hunt
Windies Awards 2018
1. THE IRISH DITCH JUMP AWARD: Who knew that hidden in our sprawling lush territory of Westtown
there lies a secret ditch jump suitable for training those who plan on riding the fields of Ireland?
While in pursuit of huntsman and hounds, one fine Wednesday morn, Master Lindie's horse decidedly
balked before going into what seemed to be an innocent (albeit overgrown) field. Cricket was asked if her
mount, Scout, might be willing to lead the group. He calmly stepped up to the task, and then both horse and
rider promptly disappeared, as the ground swallowed them up. They had apparently fallen into an overgrown
drainage ditch. Pitched forward and scrambling, the pair made it to the other side still intact, Scout
shaking and snorting" What the heck just Happened!" In order to join the rest of the field (who had decided
NOT to follow their lead) the two had to renegotiate the ditch...again. This award is Jameson Irish Whiskey
for the flask, to offer a little Irish Courage in case it happens again!
2. THE BOG AWARD: It was another Wednesday morn, the fixture was Wheeler Road...and the field was
once again trying to locate huntsman and hounds...who had seemed to ride across another innocent looking
field. An intimate group of three, Heidi, Evelyn and Cricket, picked their way across as the ground
became more and more trappy, It was Heidi's turn to disappear. She and her mare, Precious, fell deep
into a bog, where horse and rider struggled to feel the ground. Precious was buried up to her saddle
in mud, Heidi was pitched forward and came off face first, Evelyn got off to help her, Cricket held onto
horses, all three were a mess. We are giving Heidi a fishing rod with weights (carrots) to cast forward
ahead of her as she rides...If it sinks, don't go. If it just lays on the ground, use it as bait for Precious!
3. BOGGED DOWN AGAIN!: It was Wednesday, September 19; the fixture was Taylor and Old Ridge, and we
had a lovely group of riders Lee Dillon brought from Corinthian. The weather held, as did the ground, and
we all had a great time. When time came to load up and head home, Heidi discovered that she had forgotten
to put her truck in four wheel drive and was soundly stuck. she called AAA for help. Within a few
minutes a red truck comes over the hill, pulls up beside and out hope Ed Sobiech. "Are you triple A?" No,
he said, "I'm triple Lee" . lee Dillon had called for him. Ed had the truck and rig pulled out in no time, and
was indeed the hero of the day! We are awarding him the SUPER MAN award for speedy and generous help
and showing up to save the day. Thanks ED!
