Being mindful this holiday season:
The act of mindfulness is allowing yourself to be present
in your current experience, in a relaxed and open-minded
way. When spending time with your family, allow yourself to enjoy
every minute of the experience with less worry about things
that need to get done - for example, cleaning the house or the
amount of holiday shopping that still needs to be completed. To
be mindful is to cherish the moment and the memories that you
make with your family.
Seek professional support if needed:
On the surface level the holiday season is supposed to be joyous,
may experience raw and strong emotions that disrupt sleeping
patterns, cause disturbances to eating, or overall day to day
functioning. If symptoms persist for a week or more, reach out to
your doctor or a mental health provider in your area.
Most likely emotional regulation and stress management are on
the bottom of your “to do” list this holiday season. However, proper
stress management is one of the biggest gifts you can give yourself.
Your emotional state can set the tone for your family. Consider
bumping “self-care” to the top of your list this year. As silly as this
child sitting next to you.”
Happy Holidays!
