Our success this year started over 20 years ago. We made some immediate
changes with a new show designer and started the design process even earlier
than in the past. I believe that this year's success is the result of a steady and
systematic approach utilizing processes in a consistent manner. I’m proud of the
willingness of the students to try whatever we asked them to do. The band
rallied around the goal of creating a unique piece of art and that creates a
powerful bond, one that will transcend the show itself. The show was brief and
the awards won’t be remembered long term, but the work ethic and memories
of what a great performance feels like will last for years. While we had a very
successful year we are always looking for what’s next. We have announced to
our band students and their families that for the 2020 marching season we will
be competing at the Bands of America Grand Nationals competition in
Indianapolis. This is the biggest stage in the marching band world and will be a
tremendous experience for our students and their growth as performers. The
support for the parents and community is vital to our continued growth and
success. We can't exist without the support of the community. The community
funds our students learning, and band isn’t a cheap subject. Our booster group
provides additional funding to supplement the schools resources and we also
received a $1000 grant from the Nixa Education Foundation. While funds buy
instruments, music, and gets us to our competitions, it really is the other level of
support we receive that is priceless: the cheers at the football games, the
moving of props at our contests, and the welcome home parties that take place
in the parking lot after each trip. Those are the actions that are next-level. We
are proud of the consistency that exists all the way from staffing, to funding, to
how we approach learning. Consistency will always be rewarded and move us
forward.
A Note of thanks
