Behind the Tape…
By Sgt. Richard Dascall
Hello everybody! I hope the New Year is treating you well so far.
Same as every year, the winter is quickly coming to a close and we
have lots of events coming up throughout 2020. The first really big
one is going to the Irish Heritage Parade so everyone start
preparing yourselves for that.
I was looking for a good story to tell you guys this month and
this is the one I landed on. Let me start by saying, never drink and
drive. It’s expensive, it’s dangerous, and there are too many of us
out here for you to consistently get away with it. That being said, if
you’ve been drinking all day and suddenly need something from
the gas station a block away from your hotel, just walk.
So there I was, parked near Tybrisa St. and Butler Ave. during
one of our event nights. My partner and I were counting down the
minutes until it was time to go home, when this genius who was
staying at a nearby hotel decided to drive the wrong way down
Inlet. Not only this, he decided he needed to roll his window down
and ask us if he was going the right way. Long story short, he blew
about three times the legal limit and went to jail that night. Court
ended up costing him about eight thousand dollars and he told us
he lost his job because of it. So make good choices.
As I’m sure most of you have seen we have several new faces at
the PD, you’ll probably see them riding around learning the ropes.
We also have another two in the police academy, so expect them
around the beginning of April. Feel free to introduce yourselves to
them. They are all very nice and happy to be working at Tybee.
