Unsung Heroes
YEAR
OF
THE
WOMAN
By Susana Weymouth
The Tampa Bay area is well known for its proximity to the sandy beaches and blue waters of the
Gulf of Mexico. But the last decade has seen a transformation in what draws visitors and residents
alike. Tampa Bay’s cultural life has grown by leaps and bounds. From the Straz Center’s attraction
of stars on stage, to the talent drawn to the maestro’s baton and The Florida Orchestra, to the
world-class museums, galleries, exhibits, and performances, arts and culture are an integral part of the
worldwide brand being promoted every day, and play a key role in defining our community’s identity.
