Opera Tampa, which was
founded by Judith Lisi,
president and CEO of the
Straz Center in Tampa,
had celebrated 15 years of
providing beautiful music
to the community in 2010.
This issue featured the
opening of The Florida
Aquarium in Tampa with
its Coral Reef Gallery’s
500,000-gallon tank that
has more than 12 different
viewing areas. The gallery
simulates a 60-foot-deep
dive down to a panorama
of coral reefs. The aquarium
continues to fulfill its
original mission to entertain,
enlighten and educate and
is one of Tampa Bay’s
most successful attractions
because it keeps developing
new exhibits and programs.
The Metropolitan Opera was 130 years old, the Vienna State Opera was 141 years old
and La Scala in Milan was 232 years old when Opera Tampa turned a youthful 15. Under
the umbrella of the Straz Center, Opera Tampa has continued to thrive and is now in its
25th season. It provides the Tampa Bay area with great performances that have made this
regional company an important part of our community, gaining more support each year.
Opera Tampa’s next gala will take place at the center on May 2nd, when it will present its
Anton Coppola Award to soprano Deborah Voigt.
