Celebrating
Since the time I was young,
I had a special woman who
I looked up to, who taught
me valuable lessons, and
who treated me as if I could
be and do anything. My
grandmother, Sylvia, left
her imprint on me early on.
As I gathered around
her living room Lazyboy
watching her create
beautiful quilts for her
family, she told me
stories of her mother and
grandmother and their
struggles to make it in a
man’s world. Since Sylvia
was raised in a time when
women were fighting for
the right to vote, attend
college, and be heard,
her constitution was
extremely strong.
She came from
generations of women
who forged ahead and
established their own
businesses back when it
was unheard of.
My grandmother left me
with a sense of pride for
celebrating my strengths,
education, and the
courage to start my own
business. Throughout
history, women like
Sylvia paved the way
for all of us, and that
we celebrate! The old
saying, ‘We’ve come a
long way, baby,’ is an
understatement.
Thanks to the women
who came before us,
who helped pave the
path for us to now have a
career and raise a family.
We’ve come a long way,
and have so much more
opportunity.
A special thank you to
all the men who have
supported us as we
explored our strengths,
found our courage,
gained wisdom and
learned business acumen.
Congratulations to all
the women who are
making decisions and
being empowered to
change the world!
EVERYTHING culture
WOMEN Annually for more than 30 years,
March has been designated Women’s
History Month by presidential
declaration. This month is set aside
to honor women’s achievements in
American history. Although I believe
all women should be celebrated,
highlight a special few. Women like
Susan B. Anthony, Betsy Ross, Harriot
Tubman, Sandra Day O’Connor, and
Sally Ride have all made momentous
contributions to society.
In addition to women of grand influence, I believe
women of my past and present are worthy of
recognition, too.
