accessed from nearby State Road 429 while
also being highly accessible to surrounding
neighborhood community members by foot,
bike and car.
Located north of New Independence Parkway
and adjacent to Bridgewater Middle School,
the park will consist of four distinct areas that
have been prioritized for development based
on survey responses:
ACTIVE ZONE (69% of responses): The central
portion of the site provides an opportunity
for active recreational amenities including
field sports, basketball, tennis, pickleball, playground,
splash pad and a community recreation
center, including indoor and outdoor
amenities.
LAKE ZONE (13% of responses): Adjacent to
Lake Hartley, this area provides the unique
opportunity for water-based recreation in a
county park, including fishing, canoeing, kayaking
and general water enjoyment. Further
opportunities for hiking and picnicking as well
as a potential disc golf course are also planned.
NATURAL ZONE (11% of responses): The natural
zone preserves a piece of "old Florida" with
dense forest, but also has a cleared portion with
access to Hamlin Groves Trail. It provides for
nature-based education, walking and hiking
trails, picnicking and potential co-location of a
library and YMCA with aquatic facilities.
PASSIVE RECREATION ZONE (7% of responses):
This is a natural zone with open canopy of
mature mesic forest and rolling terrain that is
conducive to passive recreation including additional
nature-based educational opportunities,
a dog park, a botanical garden, picnicking
and expanded walking and hiking trails.
The conceptual design on page 53 shows
integration of amenities that were requested
by the public for each zone.
NATURAL ZONE will include unpaved hiking trails, paved paths and a potential YMCA
w/ indoor aquatics. Zone layout can be seen at HorizonWestMagazine.com/HWRP
