American engine. Allards were
shipped overseas without
engines in order for an
American powerhouse to be
installed under the hood.
The 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen, the first modern car, was driven by Karl Benz’s
wife, Bertha, who drove the car 120 miles over unpaved roads of rural villages to
bring attention to her husband’s creation.
