MARTHA THORN
Making Lemonade Out of Lemons
You might think a lemonade
stand isn’t a way to make
substantial money, but real
estate agent Martha Thorn
has raised over $185,000 during the last
eight years at her annual Lemonade
Stand to benefit the National Pediatric
Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit
organization dedicated to raising
funds for research toward eliminating
childhood cancer. This year’s event
was held in memory of Jackson
Broom, 4-year-old son of Katelyn and
Jeff Broom, who was diagnosed with
an inoperable brain tumor in February
and died a month later.
Martha Thorn held her 8th
annual Lemonade Stand event at
her Thorn Collection of Coldwell
Banker Residential Real Estate
office in Belleair Bluffs. Refreshing
lemonade was served while her
many friends and clients donated
more than $50,000 to this worthy
cause. The idea originated when the
daughter of Ginger Bennett, a team
manager and listings coordinator
for the Thorn Collection, wanted a
lemonade stand and Ginger’s father
built one for her. 9
