The dedication of Gonzmart Hall
was an event that brought together
our students, faculty, alumni,
and benefactors for an afternoon
of celebration of the Jesuit legacy
in Tampa, combined with excitement
about the future that is unfolding
before us. Those assembled,
while representing many
generations of the Tiger experience,
nonetheless share a love for
our future. Now the face of Jesuit
on Himes Avenue, Gonzmart Hall,
the new center for school administration,
student services,
and student learning, offers to
those passing by a dynamic visual
introduction to the presence of
Jesuit education in Tampa.
The event also gave us an opportunity
to thank Richard Gonzmart
’71, in whose honor we dedicated
the facility. Richard and his family
joined us for the day and were
beaming as we unveiled the dedicatory
sign, cut the ribbon, and
toured the beautiful and spacious
and learning spaces.
As Richard himself so often reminds
us, Jesuit is a school where
young boys grow into young
men who realize their God-given
potential and learn to put their
talent and potential at the service
of God and others. The important
changes underway at Jesuit
– new facilities; dynamic new
programs, courses, and activities;
and the ongoing renewal and development
of our growing staff of
Jesuit educators – are all directed
towards student formation.
As we all know, there are many
challenges in the education of
young people today, especially in
providing a Catholic education.
The culture around us poses
great obstacles to a truly Catholic
approach to education and
formation. However, there are
few endeavors more noble and
few more rewarding than the
education of the young. From the
very beginning of its existence
in the 1500’s, the Society of Jesus
has undertaken this work, created
a remarkable legacy through the
centuries, and remained committed
to it in our own day.
With your ongoing prayers and
support, we here at Jesuit will
continue to be faithful to the task
entrusted to us and leave the
generations that follow a Jesuit
school in Tampa that is thriving
and that keeps faith with its historic
mission and purpose.
Thank you for all you do for our
students, now and in the future.
Yours in Christ,
Rev. Richard C. Hermes, S.J.
