his parents,
Jesuit’s
brotherhood
Growing up, Bob Murphy ’86
seemed destined to attend Jesuit.
Not only was he the youngest of
six children in a household that stressed
education – mom and dad were both
professors at the University of South
Florida, and mom also taught at the
siblings were girls.
Jesuit could be his girl-free oasis,
except …
“I initially resisted going to an all-boys
sisters and no brothers,” Murphy said.
and it made a major impact on Murphy’s
life.
“Once on campus, I became involved in
many different clubs and was a swimmer
all four years,” Murphy said.

His involvement in clubs and sports
helped foster the close-knit brotherhood
that so many Jesuit alumni fondly
recollect years later, even decades later.
“I consider my fellow swimmers and
my 1986 classmates to be my brothers,”
Murphy said. “I am thankful for the
education I received at Jesuit and lifelong
friendships that I have made.”
Murphy is the owner and president of
Brick House Marketing, Inc., a successful,
full service advertising agency located
occasional masters swimming and going
to football games, especially the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers and Florida Gators.
And he embraced the opportunity to
give back to the school that means so
much to him by joining the 1899 Bequest
Society at Jesuit. Bequest Society
members are those who have indicated
in writing that they have made provisions
for Jesuit in their will or estate plans.
Murphy said he left Jesuit a percentage of
his estate.
“I want my donation to go towards
scholarships for deserving young men
the school,” Murphy said.
Murphy is grateful for the foundation
provided by his parents, and later by
Jesuit, and it inspires him to give back.
to enable us to have the best education
possible,” Murphy said. “Giving other
young men the same opportunity that I
was given at Jesuit is one small way of
honoring my parents.
“I’m glad to have the opportunity to
support the school in this way!”
