Tall oaks and pines surround the focal point
of this park, the gorgeous 100-acre Lake
Shenandoah. Trout-stocked waters, accessible
fishing piers and an on-site bait-and-tackle shop
with boat rentals make this spot perfect for
freshwater fishing from land or water. Eighty-four
acres of open playing fields await visitors to Lake
Shenandoah County Sports Field Complex.
This park offers more than just field sports,
however—there are also bike paths, picnic areas
and a playground.
Ocean County Park
659 Ocean Avenue (Route 88), Lakewood
This magnificent facility was originally part of
financier John D. Rockefeller’s vacation estate.
White pine, hemlock and other non-native trees,
now mature, were imported by Rockefeller
from all over the country. Tennis courts, open
play fields, beach volleyball and even a driving

range—all free of charge—appeal to adults, and children will delight in using
the playgrounds or swimming in the large, clean lake on hot summer days.
Transformed into a silent winter wonderland after a snowfall, it’s a great site for
cross-country skiing. There is no charge for casual use of the park, the off-leash
dog park, the beach or its many other facilities.
Ocean County Park has a large, accessible picnic facility. Reservations are
available for a nominal fee for up to 600 persons. Call 732-506-9090 at least three
weeks in advance for more information.
Freedom Fields County Park
1160 Route 539, Little Egg Harbor Township
Active recreation is the theme at this conveniently located sports field complex.
Soccer, softball and baseball fields have been developed to meet the needs of
the expanding population of Southern Ocean County.
Mantoloking Bridge Fishing Pier
30 Mantoloking Road, Mantoloking
With great views of the Barnegat Bay, this is sure
to be one of the best fishing or crabbing spots in all of Ocean County.
Beaver Dam Creek County Park
3430 Bridge Avenue, Point Pleasant
Take a leisurely stroll along Beaver Dam Creek’s boardwalk through tidal
wetlands, seemingly miles from civilization. This expertly groomed park has
something for everyone! Enjoy a picnic under the pavilion while the kids cavort
on one of two playgrounds, or engage in your favorite sport on six acres of
playing fields, two superb tennis courts and a basketball court.
Gull Island County Park/Conservation Area
419 Broadway, Point Pleasant Beach
This diminutive park is a perfect spot for bird-watching or a lazy day of catching
fish. Bring lunch and relax on a bench along the busy waters of the Manasquan
River just across from the island conservation area.
