Paul Sanberg, the senior vice president for
research, innovation and economic development
at the University of South Florida, has been
inducted into the Florida Inventors’ Hall of
Fame. Paul is a Ph.D and executive director of
the University’s Center of Excellence for Aging
and Brain Repair. He holds 109 U.S. and foreign
patents and has published over 600 articles and
14 books. Paul is also the 2015 Medalist of the
Florida Academy of Sciences, a fellow of the
American Association for the Advancement of
Science and the American Institute for Medical
and Biological Engineering. He is married to
Cyndy Sanberg, internship director at USF’s
Muma College of Business.
Pam Iorio, the former Mayor of
Tampa and president of Big Brothers
Big Sisters of America, was selected
to receive the Community Leadership
Award, and former Hillsborough County
Commissioner Jan Platt was honored
with a Lifetime Achievement Award
by the USF Women in Leadership and
Philanthropy at an event to benefit the
group’s scholarship and grant programs.
Jim Burkhart, president and chief
executive of Tampa General Hospital,
has been chosen to be vice chair and
chair-elect of the Florida Hospital
Association, a membership organization
of 214 hospitals and health systems
that provide advocacy, education and
informational services.
Kolby Kucyk has become the new
marketing manager for Bill Edwards’
The Club at Treasure Island.
Mike Kidd, the general manager of
Menna Development and Management
Hotel’s Staybridge Suites in downtown
St. Petersburg, announced that the hotel
received the InterContinental Hotels
Group’s 2015 Newcomer Award that
recognized it as one of the best properties
to join the system in the last year.
