Visions of the Year to Come Elliott Wiser
President and General Manager
10 News WTSP
The media landscape will continue to
evolve in Tampa Bay in 2016. Traditional
television stations, like 10News WTSP,
will further expand their brands into
digital products. More people in Tampa Bay
will watch their local news on their mobile
device. Also, two large cable providers
will disappear as Verizon FIOS and Bright
House change hands. That move will cause
more people to “cut the cord” and watch
over-the-top television.

There is so much positive, forward momentum for the
Tampa Bay Region that I fully expect 2016 to be a year that
brings more national and international recognition of our
regional potential. We have very exciting projects underway
with the new Morsani College of Medicine and USF Health
Heart Institute in downtown Tampa as part of Mr. Jeff
Vinik’s Strategic Property Partners redevelopment. On USF’s
Tampa campus, we will begin work on a new student village
that is the largest public-private partnership in the history
of Florida’s State University System. At USF St. Petersburg,
construction of the new Kate Tiedemann College of Business
is underway and USF Sarasota-Manatee will be launching
the new College for Science and Mathematics. We are also
reaching new heights in student achievement and research -
Money magazine recently ranked USF as the nation’s number
one affordable university for veterans. This year, our faculty
set a new record with $440 million in new research grants
and contracts. The talent in our region has never been more
visible on a national and global scale, and I anticipate the
New Year will bring even more great achievements.
