A trip to Green Bay
is not complete without
trying some locally
crafted beers and wines.
The name Green Bay will probably always be associated with the National
Football League’s most winning team, the “Packers.” After all, Green Bay
is the smallest city in the United States to host an NFL team, as well as the
only one now owned by its fans.
Although the football team dates back to 1919, the city of Green Bay began long
before that, when fur traders settled there in the 1600s. Green Bay is located at the
end of the Fox River, which flows north and empties into Creed Bay that leads
to Lake Michigan. The United States Government had built Fort Howard there
by 1816. The town began to grow, due to its natural resources and waterways.
It became the center of paper milling and is even the place where splinterless toilet
paper was developed.
During the summer,
over 30,000 annuals and
200 different kinds of roses
are on display in the tranquil
setting of the Green Bay
Botanical Garden.
