years, they are manning the cooker at the Turn 10 Club
campsite. Turn 10 has become a key part of the Sebring
story, but it was not always that way. Twenty-fi ve years
back a change in the track layout created a new turn and a
premium viewing spot from which to party. Many were vying
to be fi rst in to claim the new site for themselves. Then
as now, you must fi rst join the campers in staging before
the mass scramble to claim a spot in Green Park begins at
fi rst light early Wednesday morning.
Lou was aware of that, but his desire to claim that specifi c
spot was so great he devised a plan. On Tuesday afternoon,
Lou found a porta-potty in Green Park close to where he
wanted to set up camp and sat in it for a good night ‘s rest.
During the night he stayed in his “hideout” so he could
stake his claim in the morning when the gates offi cially
opened. The commotion when the gates opened alerted
Lou and he emerged from the potty rested, relieved and
began to place garbage cans to save the location. When
the fi rst groups made it the location they were upset that
it had been taken before then but as with Sebring regulars
they all become friends and now share the location.

One of the Turn 10 traditions is a marshal breakfast for all

The viewing platform at Turn 10 will be a sea of green

long race. If there is any Irish in you drop around and wish
them “top of the morning”.
