TYBEE BEACHCOMBER | SEPT 2018 19
By Alaina Loughridge
I’ve been meaning to get to this pretty lady for a while now and finally the
month has arrived! Katie Mothersbaugh is our girl and you can find her
slinging drinks at The Quarter Sports Bar and Grill. I had an opportunity to
sit down with Katie and get all the news we want to know.
Born and raised in Phoenix,
Arizona, Katie and her sister
did all the boring stuff we all
do to get out of school and be
on our own. She wanted to be
a Marine Biologist when she
grew up because she loves the
sea and all the creatures in it.
She proceeded to go to college
to become a Dental Assistant
(you plan, God laughs). Quickly
realizing that spending time
looking into people’s mouths was
not for her, Katie raised stakes
and moved to Tybee where her
grandparents lived. She had
been to Tybee several times over
the years to visit and thought it
might be a good place to start her life again.
Getting a job at The Distillery as a server, she dabbled around there for a year
before moving on to Fannie’s on the Beach. Life was good and hey, Tybee
life is even better. In 2010, she had an opportunity to start bartending at The
Sand Bar and thus truly began her bartending career. She worked at The
Sand Bar for eight years before Tommy Barlow at The Quarter Bar crooked
his debauched finger at her and there she has been for the last year.
So, here’s the real guts:
Tybee Life: 11 years
Passion: Painting in all forms – acrylic, oil, etc., especially scenery. She
also likes tattoos and has plenty to show you.
Grows Up: Katie loves dogs and is thinking about becoming a
Veterinarian Technician, although the Marine Biologist is still lurking.
Spirt Animal: A Shark! They are predators of the sea and there is a
variety of them. They also kick ass!
Katie’s go-to drink is called Katie’s Tybee Tattoo and is well named.
It starts out so refreshing, made with melon, pineapple and other secret
ingredients, and is so good that you have to have just one more. Then just
one more. Then just one more. Then you get off your barstool and fall over.
That’s where you get your tattoo. Either that or on your way home you fall off
your bike. Whichever way it turns out for you, it’s definitely good times and
I highly recommend one or five! Go see Katie today and get your tattoo on!
