LGBTQ Welcome Center Reopens
When it opened in 2014, St.
Petersburg’s LGBTQ Welcome
Center, a project of Metro
Wellness & Community Centers,
was only the third of its kind
in the nation. Since then, it’s
become a well-known safe
haven to lesbian, gay, bisexual
and transgendered members of
our community in the heart of
a city known for a vibrant gay
community.
A newly launched Welcome
Center now serves as a resource
for LGBTQ tourists interested in learning where to stay, what
merchandise from local LGBTQ artists and guests can enjoy free
and youth throughout the week. “It was our goal to create a
access to LGBTQ-friendly resources,” said Lorraine Langlois,
24 StPeteLifeMag.com November/December 2018
CEO of METRO. “Whether
someone is just coming out or in a
new city looking to make friends,
we want St. Petersburg to have a
resource for all.”
Collaborating with tourism
agencies such as Visit St. Pete/
Clearwater, the Welcome Center
will continue to bolster Tampa
Bay’s reputation as a gay-friendly
vacation destination. “The new
St. Pete/Clearwater’s reputation
as both welcoming and inclusive,”
said David Downing, President & CEO of Visit St. Pete/
Clearwater. “As the No. 1 destination on the Gulf of Mexico and
home to Florida’s largest Pride, the center provides the perfect
opportunity for travelers to connect with the community.”
The LGBTQ Welcome Center is located in St. Petersburg’s
LGBTQWelcomeCenter.org.
