FOOD BITES
Smokin’ Hot
Probably the biggest news on the Sunshine City Food Bites
scene is the recent opening of the long-awaited Dr. BBQ in the
getting-trendier-by-the-moment Edge District. The shouts of
exultation are echoing across ‘Burgland, not only because the
‘cue is darn awesome, but also for the diverse menu and the
cool digs. Dr. BBQ is overseen by world-famous ‘cue-master
Ray Lampe, along with partners Roger and Suzanne Perry of
Datz, Dough and Roux fame in Tampa. Along with a dependable
menu of smoked meats, ribs and steaks, the New American
Barbecue pushes the limits with everything from nachos and
Frito pies, to tacos, salads and signature appetizers. 1101 1st

and walk-up pastry counter are impressive. The book- and artlined
walls, a salute to the George Peabody Library in Baltimore,
are reminiscent of the historic clubs, libraries and shops of
London. Select from a light menu of breakfast and brunch items,
small plates, sandwiches, burgers and salads. Hours are 7 am to 8
