Beach Transit Center &
Downtown Quiet Zone
The Engineering Department developed
and installed a bus queue jumping signal
at the Clearwater Beach Transit Center
and managed the establishment of a CSX
Rail Line Quiet Zone through Downtown
Clearwater.
Community Safety
The Clearwater Police Department made
more than 900 drug-related arrests,
getting a wide variety of drugs off the
streets of Clearwater. More than 100 of
those arrests were related to opioids.
More than 7,500 grams of illegal drugs
were seized, with marijuana and cocaine
being the top two. Officers deployed lifesaving
doses of Naloxone four times to
people who had overdosed on opioids.
Compressed Natural Gas
Sales
Clearwater Gas System sold compressed
natural gas, or CNG, totaling $700,000.
Currently, 130 vehicles fuel at the
Hercules CNG station.
Energy-Efficient Gas Air
Conditioning at New
Recreation Center
Clearwater Gas System partnered with
the city to provide an energy-efficient
commercial natural gas air conditioning
system to cool the new 24,000-squarefoot
Morningside Recreation Complex.
Habitat for Humanity
Homes
In partnership with Habitat for
Humanity, the Economic Development
& Housing Department completed
construction of 12 single-family homes,
and it processed a $318,547 loan to
rehabilitate six units of low-income
property occupied by residents with
special needs.
Health & Wellness
Improvements
The Human Resources Department
improved the city’s wellness initiative for
employees by adding a new health coach
to the Employee Health Center and
providing personal health assessments
to 748 employees.
Hurricane Irma Response
All city departments responded to
residents’ needs before, during and after
Hurricane Irma. Clearwater Solid Waste/
Recycling worked with the city’s debris
contractor to collect more than 30,000
cubic yards of storm debris due to the
hurricane.
Library Accessibility
The Clearwater Public Library System
welcomed almost half-a-million visitors to
five locations that borrowed more than
700,000 items, used the public Internet
computers more than 113,000 times and
logged onto the library’s wireless network
more than 11,000 times.
