The city of Clearwater is proud to present its Fiscal Year 2017/18
Annual Report, which covers Oct. 1, 2017, through Sept. 30, 2018.
Here are Clearwater’s top accomplishments citywide – listed in
alphabetical order – that spanned this time frame.

New Accelerant
Detection Dog
Clearwater Fire & Rescue trained Sophia,
the new accelerant detection dog, and
welcomed her to the agency.
New Facilities & Major
Renovations
The city completed construction of Fire
Station No. 50, Morningside Recreation
Center and the East Community Library.
Parks & Recreation completed major
renovations to the Morningside Pool,
Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex, Jack
Russell Stadium and Moccasin Lake
Environmental Education Center (in
Fall 2018). The Public Communications
Department coordinated various
milestone events such as groundbreaking
and grand opening ceremonies for these
facilities.
New Financial System
The Finance Department successfully
implemented the overhaul of the city’s
financial system to the new Tyler Munis
financial system, a team effort of
Finance, Information Technology and
administrative staff citywide.
One of Best Fleets in Nation
The Fleet Maintenance Division of
Solid Waste/General Services received
the “Best Fleet” award by Governing
Magazine and was ranked 93rd in
the nation out of 38,000 public fleet
maintenance teams.
School Resource Officers
The Clearwater Police Department
expanded the School Resource Officer
Unit to satisfy the demands of the
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School
Safety Act. That act requires security
coverage at middle and high schools
and safety training and drills in all public
schools.
Support for Struggling
Utility Customers
Utility Customer Service coordinated with
the Salvation Army to provide customers
in need of temporary bill-paying
assistance totaling more than $13,000
through the city’s We Care Fund.
Water Production &
Treatment
Clearwater Public Utilities produced 2.3
billion gallons of drinking water, treated
2.99 billion gallons of raw wastewater,
and produced 1.8 billion gallons of
reclaimed water.
