06 MyClearwater
as the brainchild of library staff
who wanted to give patrons the
opportunity to celebrate their
love of reading comics. What
drew more than 500 attendees
and a handful of vendors the
first year, welcomed more than
2,000 attendees and more than 60
vendors in 2018. This year’s event
promises to be bigger and better.
In addition to promoting reading,
Clearwater Comic Con also
encourages budding comic artists.
Each year, the library solicits mascot
designs from local artists to represent
the annual Comic Con. This year’s winning mascot, Laura
Ipsum, designed by Cayla Massarelli, is a book-wielding
author by day and a crime-fighter by night. She summons
books she has read and can manifest things within them in
the physical realm, using the power of words to shape the
world around her.
Be sure to join us March 16 at the sixth annual Clearwater
Comic Con to explore and share the love of comics.
The Clearwater Arts Alliance will host the
Sunset Sip and Stroll on Saturday, Jan. 26
from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sip a glass of wine,
enjoy some appetizers, and stroll through
art displays. Visit the rooftop to take in the
sunset, and listen to live music overlooking
the bay. Tickets can be purchased for $25
before the event at clearwaterartsalliance.com or for $35 at
the door. Only a limited number of tickets will be available
for this special event.
Clearwater Mayor George Cretekos opens the 5th annual Clearwater
Comic Con at the Clearwater Main Library in March 2018.
