Appendix A
APP Appendix A 83
9. First determine the absolute pressure at the
depth to which you will be diving. Second, apply
the nitrogen "credit" that your nitrox blend gives
you. Finally, convert the air-equivalent absolute
pressure to an equivalent air depth.
10. In excess of 12 meters (40 feet), stop at half the
distance from the dive's deepest depth to the
surface 3-6 meters (10-20 feet).
11. The diver receives "credit" for the shallow
portions of the dive.
CHAPTER 6
Oxygen Precautions and Preparing
Nitrox
1. Fuel, heat, and oxygen.
2. Oxygen clean, oxygen compatible.
3. The materials used in the various parts of the
system are not flammable or readily oxidizable
in the presence of high-pressure or pure oxygen.
4. 40%.
5. It must be labeled to clearly identify it as a
nitrox cylinder.
6. A label with a green band 4 inches wide and
bordered by a thin yellow band with a printed
identifier such as "Nitrox" or "e\Enriched Air
Nitrox."
7. Most of the time pure oxygen will be used
during the fill.
8. In partial-pressure mixing, the blending
technician first puts a measured amount
(pressure) of oxygen into the cylinder and then
fills the cylinder to its service pressure with air.
9. The continuous-flow method injects a measured
flow of pure oxygen into the air before it reaches
the intake of the compressor. The oxygen-air
mixture is then compressed.
10. A molecular sieve, selective adsorbs a thin layer
of nitrogen onto its surface.
11. Semi-permeable membrane, oxygen, nitrogen.
CHAPTER 7
Knowing What You Breathe
1. The end-user (you).
2. One-tenth of one percent.
3. Electrochemical.
4. Calibration.
5. The flow rate of the gas through the oxygen
sensor.
6. About one liter per minute. (Should be between
one-half and two liters per minute.)
7. Fill date, oxygen percentage, maximum
operating depth (MOD), cylinder pressure,
name of analyzer, name of end-user.
8. It verifies, by your signature, that you either
analyzed the contents or watched as a blending
technicain analyzed them, and that you knew
the particulars of the fill and its limits when you
received the cylinder.
