Name: Dr. Tara Hogan D.C.
Blue Mountain Chiropractic, Waynesville
About my business: Blue Mountain Chiropractic. My husband and I work together
to serve all kinds of people ages 0-98. My passion is taking care of pediatric cases and
pregnancy.
Best business advice I ever received: “Conduct your life like a symphony.” I was
so tired of hearing “balance is key” being a working mother. I never understood the
balance thing. To me it implies everything needs to be static and happen in balanced
amounts “work/life”. With a symphony you have sheet music as a guide and instruct
certain instruments to play at certain times, certain tempo, certain loudness, etc. Some
instruments play more often than others and at different times. At times you have
to tune up. Practice is key. This mentality has allowed me to be a wife, mom, and
chiropractor and maintain happiness.
One thing I learned the hard way: Forcing doesn’t usually make things happen.
I have had to learn to trust the process of life, be patient, and be joyful in the journey
of it.
You’d never know this about me but: I gave birth to 3 babies all natural in
my home with midwives. I am planning another home birth for baby number 4 in
December. These experiences have been some of the most beautiful and profound
times of my life. No drama, all peaceful, gentle, and overflowing with love.

Name: Robbin Brophy
Brophy & Associates, Waynesville
About my business: Professional consulting firm specializing in tax return
preparation, IRS resolution and tax planning. I am an Enrolled Agent which means
I’ve passed a rigorous exam administered by the IRS that enables me to prepare
income tax returns as well as represent taxpayers before the IRS. I moved to
Haywood County and established my business here in July 2018. I currently have
two full-time employees who are Haywood County residents and one full-time
employee who works remotely from Louisiana and has worked for me for 8 years
and she is an Enrolled Agent as well. I believe my staff has the ability to meet
the needs of any small business client or individual taxpayer with professionalism
and courtesy.
Best business advice I ever received: Lead by example and own your mistakes.
Why I chose my career: I enjoy being able to help taxpayers solve tax issues as
well as help them get the best tax result legally possible. I am passionate about what
I do and I believe that comes through in all aspects of my business.
One thing I learned the hard way: I cannot please everybody so I have to be
happy with myself first and the rest will follow.
Words of wisdom: When you work together as a team there is an ability to draw
from everyone’s strengths and overcome others’ weaknesses. I value teamwork and
promote it in all aspects of my life.
