Are you from Haywood County? If not, where are you
from? No, Calabash, NC (Brunswick Co)
What made you decide to go into the restaurant
business? Ted’s health. He was diagnosed with kidney failure
and needed to find something that would allow him to remain
in Haywood County and work.
How long have you been in the restaurant industry?
4 years owning yet we grew up working in restaurants through
high school.
What did you do prior to this venture? Commercial paint
contractor specializing in the renovation of Water Towers
throughout the United States for 23 years following 12 years
in the US Navy.
What has been the best part so far? The Biscuit has allowed
Ted to finally become a member of this wonderful community
that due to work he seldom was ever here
Why did you choose Haywood County to call home for
your restaurant? Wouldn’t consider leaving. Haywood County
as its been our home since 1999 and will continue to be as long
as Ted is living.
Have you owned more than one restaurant? If so, how
many? 1 restaurant. 1 Coffee shop/Ice Cream parlor and are
currently renovating the old Farmhouse restaurant to become
Low Tide Calabash seafood and steak house.
What is the most popular food ordered? The Country
Folks Special and The City Slickers Special.
Has the restaurant over-come a difficult situation?
What was it and how did you overcome? Yes a fire on
December 11, 2016 Rebuilt and reopened March 1st with the
help of all our employees.
When are you happiest at work? All the time.
Have you had any celebrities come to your restaurant?
If so, who? The Pickers have dined with us.
Do you offer catering? Yes
Describe your approach to hiring staff. What do you look
for? Give anyone a chance. We will train if you want to learn.
Need employees looking for the opportunity to be part of the

What is your management style? Lead by example. Don’t
ask anything of anyone you’re not willing to do yourself.
What is a tip or advice that you have received in your
life that you still apply to your business today?
Work hard and you’ll reap plenty.
