WAITING FOR A TABLE ON
a busy morning is never a
bother at The Sawmill Place, where
you can grab a steaming
cup of coffee, settle
back in a cozy rocker
and “sit a spell” on the
shady porch.
Locals and visitors
alike know this is the place
to go if you’re serious about farmfresh
and locally sourced. The harvest-
driven menu is filled with heirloom
recipes from co-owner Amy Kight’s
family. “As Amy was growing up, if
they didn’t grow it or catch it, they
didn’t eat it!” husband and co-
owner Shawn Kight explains. “So,
we’d rather source five items from
10 local growers instead of making
even one call to a food service truck.”
Shawn emails over an order to
the Union County Farmer’s Market
every week to ensure only the
freshest produce. Additional provisions
come from local purveyors,
including the small-batch buttermilk
from Atlanta that goes into
the made-from-scratch biscuits.
And all burgers are sourced from
nearby Brasstown Beef.
There’s nothing like starting
your day with a hearty, cooked-toorder
breakfast — everything from
Banana Nut French Toast to Beef
Brisket Hash with caramelized
onions over hash browns and
topped with a farm-fresh egg.
For lunch, your Craisin Crunch
or Apple-A-Day salad will feature
crisp hydroponic lettuce from
7M Family Farms. And whether
The farm-to-table concept spills
over into the adjacent Market,
where you’ll find an assortment of
“Georgia grown” products and artisanal
goods from the tri-state area,
including snacks, sodas, goat and
soymilk soaps, jewelry and more.
it’s grilled or fried, it’ll be fresh
Springer Mountain chicken in your
overstuffed wrap. You can wash it
all down with some sweet tea, or
order from the craft beverage
menu, which features artisan teas,
handcrafted all-natural sodas as
well as a full lineup of espressos,
lattes and coffee drinks.
