to talk to someone. This way, the bigger the task, the bigger
the reward. An example from a personal experience is that
I went to a conference, and after documenting it, I went and
got sushi and watched a movie. I spend money on myself to
say “Good job! You did it!”
Second, if I have multiple projects on my plate, I do the
project I least want to do first, just to get it out of the way.
Do you have a favorite collection here at Anita Goodesign
that you have worked on so far?
Since I’m still a bit new here, I would have to pick Cottage
Creature Holidays. They were my first ever project that I
worked on here at Anita, so it’s a bit sentimental to me. Plus
the squirrel holding a coffee mug is pretty rad.
What is one lesson you have learned from being a graphic
designer?
Be a problem solver - Graphic Design is a tool to help
someone show their product, idea, image, or whatever they
need in a visual way that is appealing to their customer. In
the beginning, I used to try to create “art” that I would like
ignoring the facts and needs of the client/audience. Once
I separated myself emotionally from the task, I realized that
my job was to solve their problem visually. Once that clicked,
man, things got a lot easier.
Outside of work, what are your hobbies, and what do you
enjoy doing?
Besides painting, I enjoy spending a lot of time with my wife
and kids. We go on crazy adventures together (camping,
go-karting, aquariums, trampoline parks, etc.), build random
racetracks/houses out of anything we can find, explore and
learn about anything we didn’t know before (I guess when
our kids ask “Why?” we take it literally. LOL). We truly enjoy
experiences because life is so short, so we want to make the
most of it.
We hear there’s a new addition joining your family soon!
How excited are you?
We are so excited about our newest member. After
experiencing my wife overcoming cancer and having multiple
miscarriages after our second child, we thought we wouldn’t
be able to have another child. It was pretty heartbreaking. But
when my wife discovered that she was pregnant, we were
thrilled. A miracle really happened. After each milestone, it
became more and more real. On top of this, we don’t know the
gender, so the anticipation is even higher. Will we have a boy
or a girl? Who knows, and something about it is super exciting.
