“I was relieved that I would soon be free of the
replacement would be an outpatient surgery, so
I wouldn’t have to spend the night in the hospital.”
- Gil Johnson
The day of the surgery, Gil and his wife arrived at Hamilton
Medical Center. “We weren’t nervous because we had
attended the Joint Moves class taught by the nurse
navigator, Teresa Ingle,” says Gil. “She told us everything we
needed to know. We knew exactly what to expect.”
The reverse total shoulder replacement surgery was
performed by Dr. Frix and Dr. Nick Reed. “When I woke up
in the recovery room, they asked me what my pain level was,
and I said zero,” says Gil. “I’m so thankful for Dr. Frix, Dr.
Reed, and Hamilton Medical Center. I also had the support of
my family. That meant a lot.”
Gil was able to return home around lunchtime the same
day of his surgery. Soon after, he began his physical therapy.
Now, he’s back to work, performing shing demonstrations
around the country. When asked what advice he would give
to other oint replacement patients, Gil says, “Patience,
therapy, and a good attitude. That’s what it takes.”

STAYING WELL:
No matter your age, one of the best ways to avoid
germs is to wash your hands regularly. Scrub your hands
for approximately 20 seconds, or as long as it takes
you to sing the song, “Happy Birthday” twice.
